Dementia Cafes in Brent

Dementia cafés (also known as Alzheimer’s or memory cafés) have been running in the UK since 2000. Community Action on Dementia Brent (CAD), an umbrella organisation for groups concerned with dementia in Brent, launched a 3yr project funded by the City Bridge Trust to develop a number of new dementia cafés in Brent in 2017.

The idea was that no person living with dementia, family member or friend should have to go far to access a place where they could meet others, socialise, do activities and get support and information. Key elements include:

  • Involving and being guided by carers and people living with dementia
  • Providing support to families living with dementia and information to local communities

Dementia Cafe Brent

We are proud to say that CAD Brent has been doing superb work to develop more support for people living with dementia and their carers. From around three cafés before the start of the project there are now more than a dozen Dementia Cafés in Brent with more in development.

Dementia cafes have been set up in a variety of accessible venues including community centres, places of worship, as well as in commercial locations such as pubs.
