More GP appointments for Brent residents

Additional afternoon, evening and weekend appointments have been introduced at a number of practices across Brent to make it easier for patients to see a GP or nurse.

The extended hours service is being tested by NHS Brent Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in response to patient demand for evening and weekend appointments.

Be health wise this winter

Brent residents are being urged to take care of themselves and their family’s wellbeing this winter by being ‘health wise’ and making sure they choose the right NHS service for their health needs during the colder months.

Dr Ethie Kong, Chair of Brent Clinical Commissioning Group said: “It’s important that everyone is aware of the best ways of looking after themselves this winter and knows which local NHS services are available to them.

Last winter, about 31,000 people in England died as a result of cold weather. Most of these people were over 75 and many of these deaths could have been avoided.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of older people spend much of the winter alone and lonely. According to Age UK, in 2010 1 in 20 people in the UK aged 65 and over say they spent Christmas Day alone.
