Change of policy: cervical and thoracic facet joint injections

CT Injections

A review by the NW London Policy Development Group (PDG) with input from clinicians, Healthwatch and lay partners has found a lack of clinical evidence for the use of spinal injections in treating cervical and thoracic facet joint pain. Policy across NWL London is changing accordingly from July 2018 with these injections no longer being routinely commissioned.

Patients currently receiving or on the waiting list for this treatment will be advised that this service will be ending. GPs should advise patients regarding other treatment options and decide the best course of action for each individual.

Funding is still available via the Individual Funding Request (IFR) route in exceptional clinical circumstances. Read the policy and FAQ.
