Children looked after

Most children and young people become looked after as a result of abuse or neglect. Risks to both their physical and mental health, although similar to their non-looked after peers, are often exacerbated due to their past experiences.

Children looked after show significantly higher rates of emotional and mental health problems with almost half having a diagnosable mental disorder. Delays in identifying and addressing their health needs can have far-reaching and long term effects on all aspects of their lives.

Brent CCG is committed to improving health outcomes for children looked after and recognises the importance of having high quality and responsive health services in order to achieve this. There is a dedicated health team for children looked after who can offer a range of support and advice.
